Opportunity Description
This service provides nationally commissioned, specialist mental health care that is fully accessible to deaf children, young people and families. Deaf children and young people have historically had poor access to mainstream CAMHS who do not have experience and understanding of specific cultural, linguistic and developmental issues.
Core features of the service include bilingual (British Sign Language (BSL)/English), bicultural practice with hearing and deaf staff working together. All staff who work within the service will be supported to access British Sign Language training and will be trained in deaf cultural competency.
The national service operates as four regional community outreach teams Northern, Central, South West and London/South East. The northern service has teams in York, Manchester and Newcastle.
