Opportunity Description

Examining the impact of sleep on Alzheimer's

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease hallmarked by accumulation of β-amyloid and tau proteins in the brain with evidence that sleep plays a key role in removing these toxins.

Dysregulation of sleep and sleep disturbances can impair clearance, however, the mechanisms by which sleep disturbances contribute to Alzheimer’s pathology have not yet been fully elucidated.

This project aims to examine the impact of sleep on the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease. As such, measures of sleep, sleep-related neuropeptides and other biochemical measures will be examined to further investigate the mechanisms in which sleep may contribute to Alzheimer’s disease pathology.

We are looking for an enthusiastic PhD candidate with a keen interest or experience in clinical research and biochemical laboratory analysis. Background in biomedical science or health sciences is preferred.
