*Budget Director* *-* *(250008EY)* *About the Organization:* The Group Insurance Commission (GIC) was established by the Legislature in 1955 to provide and administer health insurance and other benefits to the Commonwealth's employees and retirees, and their dependents and survivors. The GIC also covers housing and redevelopment authorities' personnel, participating municipalities, and retired municipal employees and teachers in certain governmental units. The Group Insurance Commission is responsible for designing, bidding, contracting for and monitoring health insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, and dental and vision services for over 420,000 state employees, retirees, and their dependents. These responsibilities are conducted pursuant to the authority vested in the agency by Massachusetts General Law, Chapters 32A and 32B, as amended. The GIC’s overall annual budget exceeds $4 billion.
