Heavy Equipment Mechanic (OPFOR)

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs a variety of repairs and services to maintain heavy equipment. These duties require an understanding of intermediate heavy equipment maintenance.

**Essential Responsibilities:**

+ Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects
+ Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals, lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools
+ Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges
+ Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency
+ Welds broken parts and structural members
+ Performs all work in accordance to the applicable Technical Manual for the vehicle and work assigned.
+ May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
