GEMCO Traditional Owner Program

The Groote Eylandt Mining Company (GEMCO) has been operating on Groote Eylandt since the 1960s. GEMCO will finish mining and leave Groote Eylandt in approximately 10 years.

GEMCO is committed to the social and economic well-being of communities on Groote Eylandt. GEMCO plays an important role contributing to regional economic development by providing training and employment opportunities for roles that maintain essential services such as power, water, food, and fuel. Actions are in place to provide the traditional owners, the Anindilyakwa people, an opportunity to learn, upskill, and gain qualifications and trades to assist in building a sustainable long-term future after mine closure. 

The Traditional Owner Engagement program aims to provide local Groote Eylandt Aboriginal persons with entry level employment opportunities. Anindilyakwa persons from Groote Eylandt are encouraged to apply.
