A small town located 75 km south of Cairns with a catchment population of 4500. It is a lush tropical and farming region with high rainfall as it’s located between Queensland’s two highest mountains Multi-Purpose Health Service consists of an ED, inpatient ward, GP clinic and residential aged care. It has onsite PT and OT allied health and other allied health services through a referral system. It is staffed with 3.7FTE of Rural Generalist Senior Medical Officers, 1 rural generalist registrar and 1 intern. Shift times are 0800-1630 in the hospital or the clinic with the rostered oncall SMO covering the ED and ward between 1630-0800 the next day. Oncall is shared between the SMOs. There is no evening junior medical officer due to low presentation numbers.
