Laboratory Assistant

Job Description Supports the laboratory technical staff in the areas of specimen processing, and procurement and may perform lab testing under the direct supervision of medical technologists. Follow all laboratory protocols and policies in checking specimens (e.g. COVID, blood, stool, urine, etc) received & make sure that names tally with the request forms for testing. Follow test requirements of reference laboratory & procure appropriate specimens for testing. Perform barcoding samples & process laboratory specimens received from patients under prescribed laboratory guidelines. Utilizes centrifuges & other lab equipment to process specimens & prepares them for testing. Receives requested stock items & distributes them to the appropriate place within the laboratory.
