The Chotanagpur Law College, Ranchi was established in 1954. It is registered under section 2 (f)& 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956 and is accredited with B++ from the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC). The institution has been granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and Ranchi University in 2025. It holds the distinction of being one of the oldest and most esteemed legal institutions in Jharkhand. Initially it was affiliated with Bihar University, and later became permanently affiliated with Ranchi University.
