Opportunity Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment and Decision‑Making: Carry out timely, child‑centred assessments under Sections 17 and 20 of the Children Act 1989 for 16‑ and 17‑year‑olds who present as homeless or at risk. Determine whether a young person is a 'child in need' and whether they require accommodation under Section 20. Ensure young people are fully informed of their legal rights, including entitlements if accepted as a looked‑after child.
  • Safeguarding and Planning: Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, including risks of exploitation, abuse, self‑harm or neglect. Develop robust child‑in‑need plans, care plans, and, where applicable, pathway plans in partnership with the young person. Promote the voice of the young person and involve them meaningfully in all decision‑making processes.
