Job Summary:
Senior Surgical Care Program
A senior surgical care program is a specialized, multidisciplinary healthcare initiative designed to improve surgical outcomes for older adults-typically patients aged 75 and above. These programs recognize that seniors often have unique medical, functional, and social needs that affect their surgical risk and recovery.
+ Evaluates frailty, cognition, nutrition, medications, mobility, and social support.
+ Tailors procedures and anesthesia to the patient-s overall health status, not just the surgical condition.
+ Involves multidisciplinary teams working alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and therapists.
+ Uses protocols to reduce postoperative delirium and manage cognitive impairment.
+ Focuses on early mobility, pain control with minimal opioids, and age-sensitive rehabilitation.
