Course description: This course focuses on three historical challenges for Latin America that have inspired a vast scholarly and popular literature: state building, violence, and democratic rule. And while the course has a regional focus, it has a universal scope, and should not be considered only as a course on Latin American politics (although you will learn a great deal about them).
