Trustee for the Te Kohaka o Tuhaitara Trust

About the Trust

Te Kōhaka o Tūhaitara Trust was settled by the Waimakariri District Council and Te Runanga o Ngāi Tahu for the purpose of administering the Tūhaitara Coastal Reserve and the Tūtaepatu Lagoon in North Canterbury. The land administered by the Trust extends north from the Waimakariri River to Waikuku Beach.

The Trust can have up to six trustees, three of whom are appointed by the Waimakariri District Council and three of whom are appointed by Te Runanga o Ngāi Tahu. The trustees meet monthly. The Trust has developed and is currently implementing the Reserve Management Plan for the area, which includes a long‑term vision to restore the area to its natural state.
